Treasuring His Word

Psalm 94:19, 22- “When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul...the Lord has become my stronghold, and my God the rock of my refuge.”

In Christ Alone- Verse 3

There in the ground His body lay,
Light of the world by darkness slain;
John 8:12- “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Then bursting forth in glorious day,
Up from the grave He rose again!
Matthew 28:2-6- “And Behold, there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. And for fear of him the guards trembled and became like dead men. But the angel said to the women, ‘Do no be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come see the place where he lay.”

And as He stands in victory
1 Corinthians 15:55-56- “O death, where is your victory. O death, where is you sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Sin's curse has lost its grip on me
Galatians 3:13- “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree.’”

For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ
1 Peter 1:18-22- “Knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefather, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for your sake, who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead, and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.”

Oh! Peter, Peter, Peter! Don’t get me started! In times like these you dare say that silver and gold aren’t the safest markets to invest in? You mean there is something out there that is more valuable (precious) and more stable (imperishable) than silver and gold? There aren’t but two types of currency that can pay for a man’s sin. They are death and the blood of Christ. The former is exacted in judgment. The latter is imputed in grace. This blood is precious to the believer in two ways.

First, it is precious in economic value. What can a man give for his soul? What would it profit a man to gain the whole world and loose his soul? This substance, which represents Christ’s soul redeeming sacrifice, is more priceless than the fountain of youth. For to remain young is not to avoid judgment and wrath.

Second, it is precious in sentimental value. Like an ailing father’s gift given to his son while drawing his final breath, like a family heir loom handed down over the generations, like the footprint of a newborn given to the mother on the day of it’s birth- I don’t want to part with it. The sacrificial aspect of the purchase has knitted my heart to His. He agreed to the worst exchange rate that mankind will ever see. I can imagine the angels saying, “The blood of the Lamb for the souls of sinful man. Extortion! Extortion!”, yet he completed the transaction. So I have a heart-warming affection for the blood that flows from Calvary. Even if I could barter with it, and remain heaven bound, I wouldn’t. The following statement does not make logical sense but the experience rings true in the hearts of all believers. The blood of Jesus, oh so priceless, still somehow manages to be worth more to me than its appraised value. Amen.
